Box Score 2 On Senior Day in Prescott, Embry-Riddle used a double header sweep of Westcliff at Eagle Softball Field on Saturday to create separation at the top of the Cal Pac standings with a 4-0 game one win and a 10-1 win in the second game.
Game 1
Embry-Riddle jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning as Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) blasted a solo homerun.
Neither team had much going as Embry-Riddle's Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) and Westcliff's Emily Rosas dueled it out in the circle.
ERAU added another run in the bottom of the 5th with another solo homerun, this time by Autumn Sulusi (Kanehoe, Hawaii).
The Eagles added two insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th as Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) led off with a single. Following Miranda Montano's single, Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) also hit a single. Embry-Riddle then benefitted from two Warrior errors that the Eagles were able to score two runs on as Miranda Montano crossed the plate along with Bradee Jeffery (Manteca, Calif.).
ERAU held on for the 4-0 win in the first game of the day.
Brink earned the complete game shutout as she struck out 12 batters and only allowed five baserunners all game.
Game 2
The Eagles scored early in the second game as Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.) picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Salas who had walked earlier in the inning and moved to third on a double by Diana Miranda Montano (Tucson, Ariz.) scored the game's first run. Sam Holbert (Gilbert, Ariz.) then walked to put runners and first and second. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.). Almodoba hit a three run homerun to give ERAU the 4-0 lead.
Westcliff got one run back in the top of the second inning, however the Eagles answered right away with another run.
Almodoba earned her fourth RBI of the game as she hit a single that scored Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) to make the score 5-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, Jeffery and Judge both walked to put runners at first and second. Salas then hit a single to load the bases. A double by Miranda Montano brought in Judge and Jeffery. One batter later, Bayless earned another RBI on a groundout as ERAU took the 8-1 lead.
Embry-Riddle added two more runs on two hits in the bottom of the 4th inning. Natalie Gonzalez (Poway, Calif.) started things with a single and Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) followed with a single of her own. Jeffery then walked to load the bases again. Two defensive mistakes brought home Gonzales and Tutrone and Embry-Riddle went on to win the game 10-1.
Embry-Riddle will play their last Cal Pac series next weekend in Mesa against the Redhawks of Benedictine Mesa. The series is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday.
