Box Score 2 Embry-Riddle beat Benedictine Mesa 12-0 and 11-6 in Chandler on Sunday evening to complete the four game sweep of the RedHawks.
Game 1
Two grand slams, the first by Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and the second by Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) propelled the Eagles to the game one win.
In the first inning, ERAU put up six runs on just two hits as many players benefitted from walks. After the BenU pitcher walked the bases load, Tutrone delivered the homerun to put the Eagles up 6-0.
In the top of the second inning, Anise Romo (Waddell, Ariz.) hit a homerun to make the score 7-0.
Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) led off the top of the 3rd inning with a single. Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.) also singled and then Romo was walked to load the bases. Salas then cleared the bases with a homerun to make the score 11-0. Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) was able to reach on a defensive error and Daisy Del Rio (Gilbert, Ariz.) reached on an infield hit. Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) brought home the last run on a double to centerfield.
Embry-Riddle held on for the five inning run rule victory with score 12-0.
Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) pitched four innings giving up just four hits. Marissa Sanchez (Denver, Colo.) pitched the final inning in relief.
Game 2
ERAU took advantage of a few defensive errors by the Redhawks in the second game as the Eagles took a 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
Benedictine Mesa got one run back in the bottom of the third inning, but Embry-Riddle answered with two in the top of the 5th.
Sulusi started the inning with a single and moved over to second on a sacrifice by Delaney. A single by Jade Bayless (Redondo Beach, Calif.) put runners at the corners. Bradee Jeffery (Manteca, Calif.) then hit a single to bring home Sulusi. Bayless was able to score on a fielder's choice and after the top of the 5th inning, the Eagles led 6-1.
The Redhawks tied up the game in the bottom of the 5th inning with five runs on five hits and the score was 6-6 until the top of the 7th inning.
ERAU scored five runs in the top of the 7th inning. Alexus Marquez (Las Vegas, Nev.) delivered a grand slam to bring home Romo, Jeffery, and Bayless. The last Eagle run of the game came on a single by Sulusi as she drove home Lily Anderson (Flagstaff, Ariz.) who had reached on a single of her own.
Embry-Riddle won the second game 11-6.
The Eagles will finish the regular season on Wednesday with two games against future conference mate Arizona Christian with the first game beginning at 2pm.
