Box Score Embry-Riddle's bats erupted as the Eagles scored 13 runs in the first round of the Cal Pac Tournament to beat the Redhawks of Benedictine Mesa 13-0 in Prescott on Wednesday afternoon.
Pitchers Vanessa Brink (Vail, Ariz.) and Kate Delaney (Fort Collins, Colo.) combined for a no hitter as Brink threw the first four innings and Delaney the 5th.
ERAU began the game with three straight singles as Maddie Judge (Oro Valley, Ariz.), Leah Salas (Sahuarita, Ariz.) and Jaden Espinoza (Tucson, Ariz.) loaded up the bases. Delaney then drew a walk for the first run of the game. The Cal Pac Player of the Year, Emma Almodoba (Tucson, Ariz.), then hit a single to center field that brought home both Salas and Espinoza and the Eagles quickly led 3-0. Autumn Sulusi (Kaneohe, Hawaii) plated Delaney on a fielder's choice and Meredith Tutrone (Scottsdale, Ariz.) brought home the last run of the inning on a sacrifice fly. After one, Embry-Riddle led 5-0.
ERAU didn't score again until a big 8 run 4th inning that saw 14 batters come to the plate. Sulusi started the inning with a walk and moved to second when Tutrone went for the sac bunt but the defense made a mistake allowing both runners to reach their bases. A single by Tatum Chestnut (Peoria, Ariz.) once again loaded the bases. Judge picked up an RBI as she was walked and then a single by Salas brought home Tutrone to make the score 7-0. Espinoza hit her second single of the game to bring home two more runs and came around to score herself on a single by Delaney. The last runs of the game came on a two run homerun by Almodoba as the Eagles won 13-0.
Embry-Riddle will play at 10am tomorrow against Simpson University at Eagle Softball Field in the Cal Pac Conference Semifinals.
